Braves win two over weekend
The Bottineau Braves (co-op) Hockey Team won two games over last weekend. On Jan. 14 they beat Williston 10-2 in Rugby. On Jan. 15 they beat one of the top two -rated teams in the state Bismarck 3-2.
In the first period of the game against Williston, Bottineau led 3-0. The Braves dominated the whole game by leading 7-2 in the second period and finished the game 10-2.
“I thought we made a pretty good effort,” said Braves Coach David Hoff. “We got off to a good start and managed to spread out the scoring pretty well.”
As for scoring the first three goals in the first period were made by Andrew Lorentz from Jimmy Gilje, Seth Serhienko from Harrison Aide, and Aide from Serhienko. In the second period, goals were made by Aide from Serhienko and Jackson Bernstein, Logan Millican from Chris Hill, Serhienko from Cody Longie, and Chris Hill from Taylor Neubauer and Rugby’s Kyle Volk. The third period was more of the same with goals made by: Longie from Aide and Serhienko, Millican from Andrew Hill, and Longie from Chris Hill. Goaltender Michael Kornkven finished with 14 saves.
“It was a pretty solid game other than a couple of minutes in the 2nd period,” said Coach Hoff.
On Saturday, Jan. 15 against Bismarck High, Rugby Goaltender Cody Brooks had an outstanding 30 saves in the win.
“I thought the game had very good tempo all night,’ said Coach Hoff. “Neither team was sharp offensively, both teams got good goaltending.”
In the first period, Bottineau led with 1-0 with a goal by Cody Longie from Seth Serhienko and Harrison Aide.
For the second period, Bismarck got a goal but so did Bottineau as they kept the lead 2-1. Logan Millican made the goal with assistance from Kyle Volk and Wyatt Johnson.
Bismarck fired in another goal in the third period but the Braves also got a Millican goal from Volk and Longie.
“This was the type of game we needed at this point in the season, up tempo and close score,” said Coach Hoff. “Hopefully, we will get more of these games in the next month. It will definitely make us better come region tournament time.”
