Rolette-Wolford defeats Lakota 56-43
Rolette-Wolford defeated Lakota-Adams-Edmore 56-43 on Monday, Jan. 3 in Rolette.
The Comets shot 22 of 32 at the free throw line, better than they had all season, according to Coach Jesse Volk.
“We did well forcing turnovers but our shooting percentage needs to increase,” said Coach Volk.
Junior Chris Julson who averages about 16 points a game, brought in 22 points against Lakota-A-E. Nine of those points were from the 3 out of 4 three-pointer attempts.
Julson said that the Comets’ free throw percentage was a key to the game as they won by 13 points.
“They outplayed us in the post game,” said Julson, “but we played with more heart.”
“We did get out re-bounded,” he admitted.
The team has been low in numbers this year.
“We lost our big guys from last year, but we seem to think they are still there,” explained the coach who said the win was nice but the team could have played better.
“We need more guys to step up,” he added.
Julson thinks better communication between team members on the floor would be helpful.
“We need to talk more and work together,” Julson said.
Jaden Pfiefer, who is a senior this year and a team leader, made 19 points and 12 rebounds against Lakota-A-E. Rounding out the top three was Everett Lervik with 11 points. Lane Marion and Joe Mongeon each contributed two points.
The team has struggled to find their niche this season so far, but the win against Lakota helped boost morale.
They will be working on boxing out and making more layups.
