The Bottineau Braves Hockey Team came to play at the Al Wentz Arena in Rugby and took home their first regional win of the season. The Braves beat Jamestown 5-3.

Kyle Volk and Leo Hoffert, two Rugby athletes who play with the Braves each picked up goals in the game to sweeten the victory.

“It was a fun atmosphere in Rugby and nice to see Leo and Kyle pick up goals in their home area,” said Coach David Hoff, Bottineau.

The game started on the right note for the Braves when they scored the first goal to lead 1-0. Logan Millican made the shot with assistance from Nick Monson and Kyle Volk.

The Jays scored a powerplay goal to tie it at 1.

Leo Hoffert scored a goal from Zach Kihle to put the Braves in the lead 2-1.

Jamestown answered back with two powerplay goals to finish the first period in the lead 3-2.

“We made it a little tough on ourselves with some penalties in the 1st period,” said Hoff. “They scored on all three penalties.”

“I thought we got back to skating in the 2nd and 3rd periods,” he added.

The Braves evened up the score in the first part of the second period with a goal made by Millican with assistance from Monson.

Ready to be back in the action, Bottineau took the lead 4-3 when Volk achieved a goal assisted by Millican and Monson.

Harrison scored in the third period to seal the 5-3 win with assistance from Cody Longie and Seth Serhienko.

Cody Brooks was in goal and finished with 46 saves.

“We were happy to pick up our 1st regionwin of the year,” said Hoff.
