Varsity boys/girls take second at CC Invitational
The Rugby Booster Club Invitational Cross Country Meet was held on Saturday, October 2.
This event features hundreds of athletes at the only home meet of the season. Both Rugby boys and girls varsity teams each won a 2nd place finish.
Chandra Yankton took second place out of 122 girls, with a time of 15:12 in the 4000 meter race. Sydney Kraft, who was not at the top of her game for this meet, took 11th place with a time of 16:04. Both Yankton and Kraft have consistently taken top spots throughout the season. Kraft earned one of her better times at 15:45 at Larimore with a second place finish there. Yankton has shaved quite a bit off her time since the Four Winds Meet in September where she took first place with a time of 16:28.
Minot won the varsity girls first place team finish with 65 points. Rugby captured the second place spot with 101 points.
In varsity boys play, 105 runners competed in the 5000 meter race. Kyle Volk of Rugby had a seventh place finish of 17:33 with Garrett Thompson in 9th place at 17:43. Erik Wangler trailed with a 15th place finish and a time of 18:04. These three boys are usually in the top three spots of their team points. Volk and Thompson shaved some time off past performances, while Wangler has done better with 17:55 at Larimore.
New Town was the winner of the meet for the boys at 47 points. Rugby earned second place with 94 points.
In junior high boys, 44 runners competed in the 3000 meter race. Rugby took third place with an outstanding performance by Chris Hamilton. Hamilton took first place of all the runners with a time of 10:44 and earned the individual winner award. Tanner Bernhardt took 9th place with a time of 11:19.
Velva took first place on the junior high level with 47 points. Rugby was third place with 76 points.
The junior high girls took fifth place with 61 runners covering 3000 meters.
McKenzie Johnson finished in fifth place with a time of 12:52. Camille Klein came in with a 9th place finish and a time of 13:06. Allison Foster was right behind Klein with a time of 13:19 and a 12th place spot.
Surrey won the junior high girls meet with 94 points. Rugby finished fifth with 142 points.
In the elementary school competition, there were 58 runners for the girls and 51 runners for the boys.
The top two Rugby elementary boys were Jaden Hamilton with a time of 8:15 and fifteenth place and Jaxon Klein at 17th place with a time of 8:27. Three Rugby girls finished in 20th, 21st, and 22nd places in their meet. Brooke Radomski with a time of 9:10 finished in 20th place. Anna Clements with a time of 9:13 finished in 21st place. Jenna Wangler finished in 22nd place with a time of 9:19.
