Heading to Hershey
Rugby will again be represented at the National Hershey Track and Field Meet.
Rugby’s age 13-14 boys 400 meter relay will compete as part of Team N.D at the meet on August 7 in Hershey, Pa.
The relay is made up of Nigel Hageness, Tanner Bernhardt, Zach Miller and Eli Luna. The relay squad finished first at both the district and state Hershey meets. Their time at the state event on June 19 in Rugby was :52.24.
That was the fastest 400 meter relay time in the Upper Plains region which includes five states and two Canadian provinces, according to Cindy Kuntz, local Hershey program coordinator.
This is the sixth time in seven years that a Rugby relay team or athlete has competed at the national youth meet, says Kuntz. There are just three other athletes from the state who also will compete there this year, two from Fargo and one from Bismarck.
All travel expenses are covered for the athletes. In addition, Tara Kuntz, of Rugby, will serve as a chaperone for Team N.D. at the meet.
