Morlock claims title at GCS
Jim Morlock fared much better this time around at Rugby’s Geographical Center Speedway.
The Pettibone driver who barely got 50 feet down the track during last year’s final feature in the Midwest Modified class, claimed victory in the season-opening race on May 21.
Morlock, who is the defending track point champion in the Midwest Modifieds, held off Jeff Hooker for the win. Josh Sattler was third.
Nathan Burke won the IMCA Stock feature. Kelly Henderson, last year’s season points winner, was second. Rob Stenvold was third.
Brad Fritel of rural Rugby won the Pure Stock feature, edging veteran driver Larry Vetsch of Rugby. Mike LeMay was third.
Dana Brandt won the IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Lee Schaaf was second and Dallas Rice was third.
Cloudy weather and a chance of rain loomed, but GCS officials were able to get the first racing program in.
