Rugby figured six wrestlers had a strong chance of qualifying for the Class B state meet with a good showing at the Region 3 Individual Meet.

The squad did one better.

Seven Panthers finished fourth or higher at the Feb. 13 meet in Burlington, including one champion at 130 pounds.

Junior Wyatt Thompson won that division.

Senior Michael Steen, at 145 pounds; and Josh Tank, at 135, also reached the finals of their division, but settled for second place.

Garrett Thompson, at 140 pounds; and Zach Berube, at 152, were third in their weight class. Michael Ostrem, 160; and Reid Mundahl, 103, placed fourth in their division.

Four other Panthers competed in the meet. Alex McClintock placed sixth at 215. John Holms (285); Brandon Sunaert (125); and Thomas Kleespie (171) did not place.

Velva-Garrison won the meet with Rolla-St. John runner-up. R-SJ did have four individual winners.
