T-G-U tops Divide County

By Staff | Oct 22, 2009

The game plan for Divide County’s defense was stop Towner-Granville-Upham quarterback Tyler Thorson.

Unfortunately, the Maroons found out that’s nearly impossible to do. Thorson rushed for a team-high 259 yards on 25 carries and four scores as Titans rolled to a 42-28 win over DC in Crosby on Oct. 20.

“Our line created a lot of holes for Tyler and once you get into the secondary in 9-man football, it’s just a cutback or two to get to the end zone,’ T-G-U coach Scott Thorson said.

The Titans led 22-0 before DC got on the board. “We stress a quick start every game and we did that,’ Thorson said. “We maybe got a little flat at the end of the first half and they were able to score, but we picked up our game in the second half.”

In addition to Thorson’s big game, tailback Travis Smette rushed for 100 yards and Trevin Hall picked up around 50.

The win improved T-G-U to 6-2 overall and it was the third year in a row they won a first-round game.
