A showdown in Fessenden
Towner-Granville-Upham and Wells County meet this Friday, Oct. 2 in Fessenden in a key Region 4 game regarding playoff positioning
Both teams lost their first game of the season on Sept 25. T-G-U fell to St. John while Wells Co. lost to North Star. As a result, there is a current three-way tie at the top of the standings between T-G-U, Wells Co. and St. John at 3-1.
This Friday’s game features the region’s top three returning running backs – Ian Keller of T-G-U; and Logan Neumiller and Kelby Houchin of Wells County.
However, it just may come down to which defense outplays the other to determine the winner.
Regardless of the outcome, both teams are in good shape to qualify for the playoffs.
A big start for Thorson
Junior quarterback Tyler Thorson has had quite a start so far this season, but it’s been his legs not his arm that have produced a number of scores for the Titans.
Thorson has found the end zone three times in each of the squad’s first five games, including a 50-yard interception return. Tyler has also thrown for three scores.
Benson County picks up first win
Benson County snapped its four-game losing streak to start the season, downing Tri-County (Anamoose-Drake) 47-20 in Region 4 9-man play on Sept. 25. The win was the first for the new Benson Co. co-op which includes the schools of Maddock, Minnewaukan and Leeds.
