Rolette Co. extends season with a pair of wins

By Staff | Jul 27, 2009

The sting of a blowout loss to Surrey a day earlier was still evident when Rolette County took the field in a loser-out game with No. 4 Bottineau on July 24.

RC looked a bit lackluster in the field, and Bottineau scored four first inning runs to take the lead. It was a wake up call for the Muskrats, which found their form in the middle innings, erupting to score 10 runs in fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Nic Pfeifer would crack two home runs and Zach Thompson would also homer, finishing with a perfect 4-4 afternoon. Five teammates would have multiple hit games. After that shaky first inning, Pitcher Nic Pfeifer kept Bottineau’s hitters at bay. The win moved the Muskrats into another win or go home game later on July 24 against Minot.

Rolette started strong and finished that way, blowing out No. 5 Minot 14-4 in loser-out play shortened to five innings due to the 10-run rule on July 24.

The Muskrats scored four runs in the first inning and eight in the fifth. RC pounded out 14 hits to match the run total. Five batters had two or more hits led by Wyatt Thompson and Ian Keller, who both had three and a pair of RBI.

Pitcher Jaden Pfiefer picked up the win, holding Minot to just four runs off seven hits. The win set up a rematch with Surrey in loser-out play.
