GCS to host IMCA Stocks tour

By Staff | Jun 30, 2009

It will be a rare Saturday evening of racing at Rugby’s Geographical Center Speedway (GCS) on July 11, but the program will feature a familiar event.

The IMCA Stocks Tour returns to the speedway, kicking off the four-city, five-race event. Racing is set for 7 p.m.

“Hosting the first night is a good deal for our track,’ said Tyler Dosch, local IMCA Stocks racer, who plans to race at least two nights.

Last year’s event brought 24 cars, most from out of the area. Dosch said drivers from as far away as Wisconsin coming to race the tour have inquired about the local track.

The top 20 in the preliminary races advance to the 25-lap A-feature and vie for the $500 first prize. Drivers who qualify for the main race make $100.

The racing association is hopeful the tour will attract a good crowd, taking in what should be an entertaining and competitive race.

From Rugby, the tour heads west to Minot, July 12; Estevan, Sask., July 13-14; and ends in Williston, July 15.

Plaza’s Randy Fyllesvold won the feature at the GCS on night one of the 2008 tour. Minot’s Nathan Burke would win three of four feature races en route to the tour title.

Dosch said racing five nights in a row is quite a grind and requires drivers and pit crews to be quite prepared, bringing additional parts, including a second motor – and in some instances a second car.

However, no GCS track points for IMCA Stock drivers will be awarded.

Also on the racing card

In addition to the IMCA Stocks Tour, Pure Stocks and Wissota B-Modifieds will be part of the racing program. Just the Pure Stocks will have track points to battle for.
