Minnewaukan-Leeds tops Rolette-Wolford

No. 2 Minnewaukan-Leeds started quickly, and rolled to a 50-31 win over No. 7 Rolette-Wolford in the opening round of the District 8 boys basketball tournament in Langdon on Feb. 27.

The Lions outscored R-W 28-13 in the first two quarters. Dustin Paulson scored a team-high 17 points for M-L. Matt Swanson added 15.

R-W was paced by Nic Pfeifer’s 10 points.

The win moved M-L into a semifinal game with No. 3 seeded St. John, which defeated No. 6 Rolla-Rock Lake 79-56 in a quarterfinal game.

The tournament’s top seed North Star had an easy time with No. 8 Adams-Edmore in the first quarterfinal. The Bearcats won 91-22. The only upset of the opening round came when No. 5 Munich-Starkweather defeated host No. 4 Langdon 73-59.
