Rugby skaters to face league leader
Rugby’s Junior Gold team will look to extend its winning streak to three games when the Fargo Flyers come to town on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 10, for a Junior Gold league game.
However, that will be quite a challenge, as the first place Flyers are undefeated in league play, have won the past four meetings against the Ice Hawks, and Rugby will be coming off nearly a three-week break.
The Ice Hawks (2-3-1) haven’t played a league game since a Dec. 21 win over Richland (Sidney, Mont.). The squad did scrimmage an alumni team a week ago.
Rugby coach Jay McClintock Jr. is hopeful his team can remain sharp, despite the layoff. It will mark Rugby’s fourth straight home game.
Notes
Fifteen Rugby players have at least one point so far this season…Rugby’s 14-0 win over Crosby on Dec. 19 was its first shutout since a 6-0 win at the Fargo Flames in Dec. of 2007… And for the record, it was incorrectly stated last week that Rugby’s win over Richland was its first over the Rangers in Rugby since 2000; actually, the Ice Hawks defeated the Rangers 8-4 at home last year, ending that streak at seven years.
