Rugby fifth at Linton Tournament
LINTON — Rugby had eight wrestlers place and the squad finished fifth at a tournament here on Dec. 20.
Wyatt Thompson, Zach Odden and Brooks McClintock all finished fourth. Justin Fjellanger and Garrett Thompson placed fifth; Michael Ostrem and Josh Tank placed sixth; and Michael Steen was eighth.
Rugby is off until the New Town Tournament on Jan. 10.

Rolla-RL downs Comets
ROLLA — Rolette-Wolford ran into a tough opponent in rival Rolla-Rock Lake, giving up 50 first half points, and falling 90-44 in District 8 play.
The Comets were simply overmatched by the Bulldogs’ talent. Allison Slaubaugh scored nine points to lead R-W, which dropped to 4-6 overall.

Harvey tops Titans
TOWNER — Towner-Granville-Upham’s offense could muster only 13 first half points, and Harvey took advantage, building a sizable lead en route to a 53-37 non-district win here on Dec. 20.
The Titans did outscore the Hornets in the third quarter, but couldn’t continue that strong play in the final eight minutes. Annie Klebe and Taylor Stone each had 10 for T-G-U., which fell to 3-5 overall

Glenburn defeats R-W
ROLETTE — Rolette-Wolford struggled on offense, scoring just 23 points through three quarters of play, and when its offense started to click in the final period it was too little, too late.
Glenburn built a big lead after three quarters and cruised to a 56-38 non-district victory over the Comets here on Dec. 20. Allison Slaubaugh paced the Comets with 12 points. The loss dropped the squad to 4-5 overall.

Rugby tops Richland in OT
When Rugby forward Jordon Kuhnhenn flipped a backhander over the glove of Richaldn netminder Chris Carver and just inside the right goal post at 4:32 of overtime, it gave the Ice Hawks a much-needed win heading into the holiday break.
Kuhnhenn’s late game heroics ended a wild contest at 4-3. A game that featured the Ice Hawks jumping out to a 3-0 lead only to see Richland rally to tie it, and force the overtime period.
Rugby scored just :47 seconds into the game on a goal by Leo Hoffert and extended the lead to 2-0 on a nice individual effort by Kyle Volk who dove and slid a puck to Daniel Gannarelli who deflected it past Carver. Aaron Teigen’s slap shot early in period two hit a Richland player in the slot and redirected past Carver for a 3-0 Ice Hawks advantage.
However, Rugby got into penalty trouble later in the period and the Rangers tood advantage, scoring twice on the power play The game was tied heading into the final period and both teams traded some good chances.
Rugby’s Thomas Seaver made 33 saves in goal, including a few tough ones early in the final period when the game was tied.
The win improves Rugby to 2-3-1 on the season and 2-1 in league play. The teams skated to a 1-1 tied in a tournament in Sidney, Mont. earlier this season.

Rugby routs Crosby
Ten different players scored, and Rugby cruised to its first win of the season, a 14-0 victory over visiting Crosby on Dec. 19.
The Ice Hawks fired 22 first period shots on goal and led 3-0 after 20 minutes. The team then added five goals in period two and six more in the third to improve to 1-3-1 on the season.

ROLETTE — Blake Nelson scored a team-high 15 points, and Rolette-Wolford improved to 3-1 on the seaso, following a 50-41 non-district win over Wells County here on Dec. 22.
The Comets led by just two points at halftime but expanded their lead in the final two quarters. Taylor Gottbreht and Nic Pfeifer were also in double figures, scoring 10 points each.
