TGU leads tight Region race
The No. 5-ranked TGU Titans hold a slim advantage over hotly contested Region 3 in 9-Man football.
TGU improved to 7-1 with a tough 22-12 win over Divide County on Oct. 10. Colter Thorpe caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Eli Luna for the only points of the first half. The pair connected again for a 45-yard score to give the Titans a 14-0 lead. The Maroons’ rally fell short as a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns sandwiched Luna’s third touchdown pass of the game – a 6-yard strike to Lane Schmitt.
TGU is one of three Region 3 teams expected to finish the regular season 8-1 today. The Titans, St. John and Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn play opponents with a combined record of 3-21.
TGU, which lost to St. John, held the tiebreaker heading into today’s game with a point-differential high of 198. The Sioux – who lost to TGU, but beat the Woodchucks – have a point differential of 196. The Woodchucks’ difference is 178.
