Titans rebound over W-N-G

The TGU Titans recovered from their lone loss of the season with a 36-14 win over Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn in a 9-Man, Region 3 football game Sept. 26.

Senior quarterback Eli Luna ran for three touchdowns and threw for another. The Titans (5-1) built a 22-6 lead in the first quarter. Luna had TD runs of 58 and 49 runs in the opening frame. TGU running back Reese Schell capped the scoring with a 32-yard run in the third quarter. The Sioux (5-1) are a half-game back of TGU in the standings and both teams trail St. John (6-0). The Woodchucks dealt both teams their only losses.

Wildcats beat F-S-H-P

It came down to a 2-point conversion in the first quarter and that’s all Benson County needed to separate itself in an 8-6 win over Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page in a 9-Man, Region 2 football game Sept. 26.

Zachary Frericks scored on a 23-yard run to tie the game and Aidan Ritterman ran in the 2-point conversion.

The Wildcats improved to 3-3 and F-S-H-P dropped to 1-5.

Comets leading in volleyball

The Rolette-Wolford volleyball team is tied with three other teams atop the Region 4 standings. The Comets are 2-0 in region play and 13-4 overall. North Star, Langdon Area and Lakota-Edmore also are perfect in early region action.

R-W junior Lexy Wittmayer led the Comets with 28 kills in a 3-0 sweep of Harvey-Wells County on Tuesday.

Benson County has the most wins in Region 4 and improved to 3-1 with a 3-1 win over New Rockford-Sheyenne on Tuesday. Annie Jorgenson led the Wildcats with 17 kills.

The TGU Titans improved to 2-1 in District 11 with a 3-2 win over Westhope-Newburg on Tuesday. Angie Anderson led TGU with 12 kills and Maddy Bollinger led the team with 14 digs.
