St. John deals Titans first loss
In a battle of the top quarterbacks in 9-Man, Region 3 football, Seth Vivier and the St. John Woodchucks came out on top 44-34 on Sept. 19. Vivier had a remarkable performance with three passing touchdowns and one on the ground.
TGU dropped to 4-1 and St. John improved to 5-0. TGU senior Eli Luna rushed for three TDs and 192 yards on 35 carries and tossed two TDs with 124 yards through the air.
The score was tied at 20-20 at the half, but a 16-point third quarter gave St. John the advantage as TGU’s rally fell short. The Titans hosted Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn (5-0) for homecoming on Friday.
In 9-Man, Region 2 action, the Benson County Wildcats improved to 2-3 with 54-0 drubbing of at Four Winds. Six different Wildcats found the end zone led by receiving scores for Dagan Arendt from quarterback Aiden Ritterman. The signal caller also rushed for a pair of touchdowns.
Volleyball teams open district play
In area volleyball action, the Benson County Wildcats are 10-7 overall and 1-1 in District 4. BC picked up its first district win in a 3-0 sweep (25-12, 25-21, 25-14) of New Rockford-Sheyenne on Sept. 16. The team then rolled over Drake-Anamoose two days later by scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-13.
Rolette-Wolford is yet to play a district game and is 5-3 overall.
