McClintock starts strong
Recent Rugby High School graduate Jack McClintock, the 2014 Class B boys golf champion, is off to a strong start in his collegiate career.
McClintock helped St. Cloud State to a team win in a season-opening tournament in Stillwater, Minn. The Huskies won the Minnesota State University-Mankato Invite at Loggers Trail Golf Course on Sunday and Monday.
McClintock carded the second-best, two-round score on his team with a 148 (74-74) and was fifth overall in the tournament.
SCSU sophomore Jack Barnhardt won the tournament with an even par 146 (72-74). The Huskies had a team-low of 596. Seven Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams participated and Mankato took second, four strokes behind SCSU. McClintock plays again Sunday through Tuesday at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Invite.
Miller golfing with Jamestown
Recent Rugby High School graduate Benji Miller started his collegiate golf career with the University of Jamestown. Miller participated as an individual at the UJ Fall Kick-Off at Jamestown Country Club on Aug. 27. He shot 85 at the par-72 course and was seventh best Jimmie on the day and finished 22nd out of 31 golfers. Jamestown won the event by one stroke with 302. Bismarck State College was second.
Former BR hockey stars on NAHL roster
A pair of former Bottineau-Rugby hockey standouts are preparing for their first full season together as Bismarck Bobcats of the North American Hockey League. Cody Longie, a 6-foot defenseman, played in 42 games with the Fargo Force of the United State Hockey League in 2013-14. Longie had one goal and five assists.
Harrison Aide, a 5-foot, 10-inch forward, made two appearances with the Bobcats in 2014 following the high school season. Aide scored one goal in a loss to Aberdeen.
Aide finished his prolific preps career as the state’s all-time leader in points. He was selected Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year. Aide finished with 142 goals and 169 assists in five seasons with the Braves.
The Bobcats host the Minot Minotauros in a preseason game at 7:15 p.m. tonight. The two teams played in Minot on Thursday. Bismarck opens the regular season at the NAHL Showcase Sept. 17-20 in Blaine, Minn.
