After 30 years of being a member of the Rugby Golf Club and after nearly 50 rounds of golf per year, Brett McAtee is the proud owner of a hole-in-one.

McAtee, 58, hit the shot on June 26 at Rugby Golf Course. The shot came on the par-3 No. 7, which plays 189 yards.

“I hit it with my utility 3 iron,” McAtee said. “It felt great, it just curved right onto the green and was just a really nice shot. Keith Duchscher was my witness. I told him I was gonna hit it into the wind and let it bring it back to the green and it did.”

McAtee described the shot as a blind one and said the foursome of him, Duchscher and their wives, Cheri McAtee and Linda Duchscher.

“He hit a nice shot and it bounced up on the green and I didn’t see it on the back of the green, so we looked in the hole,” Keith Duchscher said.

The first time for McAtee reminded Duchscher, who has nine hole-in-ones (two on Rugby’s No. 7), of the excitement of an initial hole-in-one.

It will be a highlight for McAtee for some time to come.

“I shot a 29 out there once and this felt better than shooting that 29, if you can believe that,” McAtee said.
