Area teams pick up wins Monday
The Benson County girls basketball team used it size to gain an early lead over Rugby and held on for a 41-35 win Monday.
The Wildcats went for the sure thing with forward Annie Jorgenson, who finished with a game-high 23 points. Junior guard Courtney Bubach added 11 for BC.
RHS junior Darby Deckert scored a team-high 10 points, and sophomore Shea Heidlebaugh and junior McKenzie Johnson added nine apiece for the Panthers.
Neither team shot well from the free-throw line, and Rugby made just 10 of its 21 attempts.
It doesn’t get any easier for the Panthers (3-2) as they face No. 1-ranked Bishop Ryan on the road Tuesday. The Class B defending state champions are 5-0 and beating opponents by an average of 27 points.
Benson County played at Munich-Starkweather on Friday.
TGU boys rout Glenburn
Senior forward Luke Bacon scored a game-high 19 points to lead TGU to a 60-31 win over Glenburn. The Titans improved to 5-3 with the win.
Senior Ethan Bachmeier and junior Colter Thorp added 15 and 13, respectively, to provide balance for TGU, who hosted Bishop Ryan (4-2) on Friday.
Glenburn was led by Dustin Weeks’ nine points.
