Titans storm toward playoffs
The TGU football team has logged plenty of playoff minutes over the past few seasons.
The unbeaten and No. 2-ranked Titans (8-0) take on Beach in the opening round of the 9-man playoffs on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. in Towner.
Head coach Scott Thorson said that experience should be a plus for his Titans, which reached the state semifinals last year after an unbeaten regular season.
“Well, I think that is always a plus,” Thorson said of the experience. “The playoffs are so intense and played at such a high level that it can be a real shocker to those athletes that have not experienced it. Our seniors have played in a lot of playoff games. Hopefully that is an advantage for us.”
Thorson reports the Titans are completely healthy, which should mean their explosive offense led by quarterback Eli Luna should be primed to put a lot of points on the board.
TGU, the top seed from Region 3, will take on Region 4 fourth seed Beach, which Thorson said is a solid team.
He’s expecting that Beach will try to limit the Titans’ big-play ability.
“Beach has a team that is fundamentally very sound,” he said. “They do nothing too fancy, just line up and play. They have a nice-sized team that likes to pound it at you offensively. Defensively, they will focus on our running game and apply a lot of pressure to the QB in the passing game.”
