Allison Volk figured she’d reach the milestone eventually.

The senior setter on the Rugby volleyball team entered the season on the cusp of 1,000 assists, but figured it’d occur late in the season. But Volk passed the mark during her third assist of the Panthers’ game against TGU last Saturday at the Glenburn Invitational.

“I knew I was close, but it took me by surprise,” she said. “I was expecting it to be more by district time.”

Volk said part of the fun has been to work with the dozens of hitters she’s set to throughout her career.

“I’ve been on varsity for four years and I’ve went through a lot of hitters,” she said. “It’s hard to get used to but it’s pretty fun to learn.”

She said she was excited to reach the milestone and said it was neat to think about how many points she’s contributed to.

“It’s pretty much like 1,000 points in basketball,” she said. “1,000 points in volleyball that I’ve assisted.”

She said that this year’s Panthers team traveled to Devils Lake every week over the summer to play together and feels like the team will continue to improve.

“Everyone went to Devils Lake and we worked hard to get used to each other,” she said. “We just have to communicate and move our feet, we’ll be there.”
