Braves split in overtime bouts

February 10, 2017
Pierce County Tribune

The Bottineau-Rugby Braves had two matches in two days go into overtime last week.

The Braves would win one, but lose the next night.

During pink-out night at the Al Wentz Arena in Rugby, Alex Horner, assisted by Austin Leingang, put the puck in the net first at the 2:58 mark in the first period. The Braves would respond soon after, with Nic Costa and Jace Scherr each finding the net. Leingang would close out the period on an Andrew Morgan-assisted goal.

After a scoreless second period, Keatyn Skytland gave Mandan a lead, one it held for nine minutes. Scherr tied things up on his second goal of the night.

In overtime, Ty Spence sealed the deal for the Braves on a solo goal.

The next day in Bottineau was a different story.

West Fargo got on the board first with a Josh Jakskowski goal around the 9:03 mark in the first period.

The Braves were unable to score until 12:19 in the second period, with Riley Olson providing an assist for Costa.

Scherr would later get an unassisted goal in the third, allowing the Braves the lead for nearly two minutes.

A Brody Sherod goal sent the game into overtime, where a Cole Haverland goal would result in a West Fargo victory.

The Braves competed again in Rugby on Friday against Bismarck Century.
