Ely Expansion: Education and Safety Matters

By Staff | Nov 6, 2021

Chad Duchscher, Rugby

As an area farmer for two and half decades and a father of three in the school system, I feel it’s important to address the current needs at Ely Elementary school. Our children’s education is so important, and when I look back on my fourth-grade math and reading skills I received some thirty years ago, versus my son’s, there is no comparison.

Education has come a long way over this time. It’s not the same anymore, it’s become way more advanced and individualized, and we need a facility to accommodate that. Years ago, a one classroom-fits-all model, was the norm, not anymore, no child is left behind. With new specialized and individualized education comes a need for greater space.

Areas of advanced learning are not gained in a hallway or a closet space at present. Above all, our children’s safety is of greatest concern. How many of you have driven past our school during pick-up and drop-off times? It is not the safest environment for our children. Please help our community with the furthering of education, the safety of our children, and future community growth by supporting the addition and renovation of Ely Elementary. Vote YES on December 1st at the Rugby High School Gymnasium!

Thank You.
