Masks, Contract Tracing, School, Community
Dallas Hager, Rugby
It is an understatement to say that it has been a challenging time for humanity over the last year, none more so than for our local school district. I applaud Dr. Mike McNeff, Jared Blickery, Jason Gullickson, Dawn Hauck, Dustin, Hager, Karly Johnson, Shane Livedalen, Kris Blessum, and Brenda Heilman for the work and personal sacrifice given by each of them. I thank each and every teacher for continuing to educate our children. We are fortunate to live in North Dakota where some common sense and human gratitude remain today.
Where do we go from here…a question that we must all ask ourselves? For me it has become simple, I am done with the masks, distancing, and contract tracing. I will not live my life in fear nor will I teach my children to live their lives in fear. Think back a year ago, we were on a 3 week “bend the curve” plan. Since then, the fear factor (pushed by power, not by the science) has led to multiple masks with no end in sight. President Biden recently stated that we may be able to have a small gathering during the 4th of July if the wearing of masks continues. Lloyd Omdahl in the April 17th Tribune mentioned Yogi Berra’s comment of “It Isn’t Over ‘Til It’s Over” and that many variants are unknown or threatening the vaccine.
There are a couple simple truths we need to come to term with. The China Virus is not going away and thus we have a decision to make, wear masks and follow the “guidelines” indefinitely or live our lives without fear, I choose the latter. The choice does not need to be divisive, but it will be decisive. My friends will remain as will my neighbors and I will continue to support and appreciate the work done by so many, even if I do not agree with them personally.
