LETTER: Newcomers didn’t understand District 14 politics
I am a long-time Republican activist in District 14. Mr Fred and other anti-Common Core activists came to the District 14 reorganizing convention in the spring of 2015. No one expected them to show up and they elected the chairman and vice chairman of District 14. There are 13 other members of the District 14 executive committee. The newcomers felt they could come in and run things. They did not understand the process. I have always encouraged Republicans to become invovled in District 14 and the state party. I think many people consider themselves Republicans, but few pay the $36.50 yearly dues to become members of the N.D. Republican party. Politics is a rough and tumble business and it takes money, time and effort to get candidates elected.
We who have been active in the party for years are in favor of supporting the endorsed candidates. The district executive committee did the right thing in voting to give money to the endorsed candidates. The reason for the district structure is to raise money for the endorsed candidates and there is nothing nefarious or out of the ordinary to support candidates financially and to get yard signs up and man calling banks.
Mr. Fred has never contacted me to find out my opinion of how the process works. Other people have and i have always given advice and guidance to those who would like to be involved in politics. I do urge all people to get invovled. If you leave politics to others, you see the kind of governement we have. Please join me in reelecting Republicans to office!
