Letter: Support Jon Nelson
You might find it strange that three healthcare administrators from Western North Dakota are writing in support of Representative Jon Nelson. It would be strange, except for the fact that Representative Nelson has been an unwavering advocate for hospitals across the state of North Dakota. During the 2013 legislative session hospitals in North Dakota were hemorrhaging from mounting bad debt. Representative Nelson advocated on our behalf to secure legislative assistance to offset a portion of the bad debt. In the 2015 session similar legislation was enacted, which was supported by Representative Nelson. Rather than simply provide a handout to hospitals, as part of the legislation Nelson sought and then secured funding such that hospitals could put into place software that determines the address, the health insurance provider and co-pay and deductible amounts for those presenting for services. This software has allowed hospitals to reduce their bad debt.
On a broader scope we have had the privilege of seeing Representative Nelson in action in the various committees he is on. He is someone that is willing to take on the establishment and fight for what is right. We had found him to be someone who is approachable, collaborative and ethical.
Today, the issues that Representative Nelson advocates for continue to exist. Principally in the healthcare setting it is the lack of behavioral health services in North Dakota. It is for all these reasons that we ask his constituents to re-elect Representative Jon Nelson.
