4-23 Letters to the Tribune
In Praise of Hovland’s Book
I am writing this letter to sing the praises of Rob Hovland’s book, “75 Years of Rugby Panther Basketball.” As a former resident of Rugby and a former Rugby High basketball player I was very interested to read the book as one might imagine. Honestly, I was blown away. Rob’s research of the subject, Rugby High Basketball, is absolutely unbelievable. He has facts, as well as quotes, from numerous names of the past up to the present.
What is so wonderful is this book is not only a history of basketball, but it is also a history of Rugby through basketball. In other words, you don’t have to be just a basketball player or fan you can just be a past or present citizen of Rugby to appreciate the book. I purchased it for my two brothers as gifts, and they are still talking about it and thanking me for it.
So if you are looking for a gift or just want a great read, this book fills the bill. Again, the work and research that Rob has put into this book is phenomenal. Rugby should be proud of his effort and should buy the book, you won’t be sorry.

Support EMS Services
Emergency medical services are a vital part of our community. Many of you already know our story of how my husband Arden was saved from cardiac arrest because of the quick action of trained EMS professionals. But rural states like North Dakota are in a crisis with a shortage of trained volunteers and many miles to cover with limited staff, limited budgets and other challenges.
The Department of Rural Health and other stakeholder partners hosted a regional meeting to gather input and ideas on how to solve the challenges we face. Our EMS system is not alone in facing these challenges. EMS systems across the country are facing similar challenges, including the decline in the largest subsidy for care: volunteer services. North Dakota has an opportunity to lead the way to identify solutions to these rural challenges. Cardiac victims like Arden are depending upon us!
