Look for the Helpers
To the Editor
Our world can be a scary place at times, and troubling stories dominate our evening news and social media sites. I write this letter to encourage us all to be thankful during this season of thanksgiving.
I was recently inspired by a quote by Mister Rogers who said, “When I was a boy and would see scary things in the news, my Mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
When I think about the community where I live and so many others like it across North Dakota, I think about all the people who helped to build the chain of survival fro sudden cardiac arrest or stroke. From EMTs and doctors and nurses, to Governor Dalrymple and all the legislators who supported funding, and the volunteers who made their voices heard on these life-saving issues. So may people have stepped forward to do positive things for our communities. Those are the helpers!
When my husband experienced a sudden cardiac arrest, if not for all the helpers in the chain of survival, he would not be here with our family to celebrate this season of Thanksgiving or for many more of life’s precious moments.
I encourage everyone to look for the helpers in your community this season, and be sure to thank them for all that they do to help build strong and healthy communities in North Dakota.
