Fire department event cleared up questions

By Staff | Sep 17, 2010

We appreciate the Rugby Fire Department for sponsoring the Sept, 12 picnic at the park so we were able to learn more about their proposal for possible plans for a new fire hall.

We were surprised to see how large the park really was, as we have only seen the north portion of it used.

Rugby has always been fortunate to have an excellent and dedicated group of volunteer firemen. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the past and present members for the service they have provided to the Rugby area all of these years.

We also want to commend the employers who support the department by allowing their employees to respond to fire calls. So often we take for granted the service provided by the department. It is not only the fire calls, but the rescue calls as well.

I know there are many times when firemen have to leave family events to answer a call, and we thank their wives and children for being understanding. Whenever, I hear the siren in the middle of the night, and maybe it is 20 below, I am so grateful knowing that the firemen will answer the call.

Every second counts when responding to a call. I think that point was foremost in their minds when they were trying to find a suitable location for the fire hall. Three minutes is a long time when something is on fire. I hope that all of us can help in their goal for a new fire hall.

Again, thank you for all your dedication and service to our community. It is reassuring to know that we can count on you.
