Rugby was a deserving school, community for award

By Staff | Apr 23, 2010

The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) would like to commend your high school students, teachers, and all members of the Rugby community for working so hard to promote safety for teen drivers.

In March, Rugby High School won the ND Teen Drivers Safety Contest, which was a statewide event held through the transportation department’s NDTeenDrivers website, in an effort to encourage and educate teens and their community about traffic safety.

The students at Rugby High School embraced the importance of this contest and it showed in the 30-second traffic safety public service announcement they created, as well as the variety of activities they completed to promote traffic safety throughout the five month contest.

As the winner of the contest, Rugby High School was awarded an after school event on Friday, March 26, featuring the live band, “Fully Loaded.” The event was sponsored by the North Dakota Safety Council, Basin Electric/Dakota Gasification Company, Bank of North Dakota/Student Loans and Cloverdale Meats, with games provided by the North Dakota National Guard.

Several NDDOT staff enjoyed the opportunity to visit the high school and meet faculty and students. We applaud the school and community for having such a great group of students at Rugby High School.

With all of the activities Rugby High School students conducted to encourage traffic safety in their school and community, there is no doubt that they made a lasting impact on their peers and community members. Due to their dedication promoting safety, lives have been saved as students and residents remember to buckle up – every trip, every time.
