Poll doesn’t tell full picture; Police need to enforce noise ordinances relating to fireworks
I would like to comment on the poll that was taken on the question to ban or not to ban fireworks. Thirty people out of 2,500-plus residents answered the poll, and about 20 of those want to keep fireworks.
My question is, who are these people? My guess is that it is the people who sell the fireworks and a couple of their friends. The Tribune makes it sound like everybody in Rugby wants to keep fireworks by this joke of a poll.
Some people say we need more rules and more ordinances for the fireworks. Why do we need more rules and ordinances when our dime store police department won’t enforce the ordinances and laws we have now? When the noise ordinance is 11 p.m. for fireworks, why are there still fireworks going off at 2 a.m.?
When you call the police department to ask why fireworks are still going off at 2 a.m. they say they don’t know know what’s going on or they don’t hear anything. This leads me to think if you are deaf and don’t know what’s going on you are qualified to be a cop or to work for the department.
Yet we wonder why people are leaving Rugby. Go figure.
