Time to come together on issue with cool and calm voices
By Gloria Vetsch
I would like to apologize to Bruce (Rheault), as he called me and said he was with his wife, who was having surgery in Minot. He did not say, however, if he would have attended had he been in Rugby at the time. So far, he has voted for the people. That being said, now it is time to get down to the business at hand.
This dilemma of taxation for improvement of our city streets has been rehashed in the paper, in cafes, and in our homes. I will quote from a letter I recently received from our mayor, Dale Niewoehner: “The best choice for the citizens of Rugby is not to get too far off center and wait and see what the costs will be when the bids are opened in March. At that time the City Council will make decisions as to the future of this project. Many things have changed since this project was first initiated.”
I propose to have Randy Malo, with two more of his people, meet with three members of our City Council and all others keep silent and keep their tempers out of the matter. Randy can pick the three council members he prefers to work with, and the council can choose the two persons to be with Randy. Why? Because Randy is a man who stays cool and calm under stress. Then everybody can really listen to what comes out of this.
I know we can’t be sure the council will care about the welfare of the public, as they have already proved that with their bids on the garbage disposal. I know who voted for the public and who did not.
