Time to ‘spring’ forward

By Staff | Mar 26, 2010

The snow is melting, the temperatures are warming up and the days are getting longer.

Yes, spring is here and it’s time to look forward to gardening, evening walks and planning summer vacations.

We have endured another long winter and although we may still have to contend with a few more snow showers and cool temperatures in the coming weeks, we should keep a positive outlook.

Soon our snow shovels will be replaced by a rake and garden hose. Soon we will be grilling on the patio and taking in our children’s youth baseball games and going to the park.

What else can we look forward to this spring and summer?

Here are a few suggestions.

-Take an early morning or evening walk.

-Hold a rummage sale.

-Get to the golf course and take your son or daughter along.

-Roller blade or go for a bike ride.

-Hold a picnic and day of swimming at Balta Dam.

-Invite the neighbors over for a backyard barbecue.

-Sign up to play women’s sand volleyball or men’s softball.

-Relax on the porch swing on an evening.

-Pick a night each week to go out for ice cream.

-Go fishing at nearby Devils Lake or camping at Lake Metigoshe.

-Take in the Lions Club’s weekly Wednesday evening concerts at Ellery Park.

-Set out a bird feeder and keep track of the various species of birds that drop by.

Of course, there are many things we have to look forward to doing outdoors over the next several months. Whatever suits your fancy, get out and enjoy our beautiful spring and summer conditions.

North Dakotans have to contend with the bitter cold for nearly half of the year. However, when winter finally ends, we have warm weather waiting for us and a place to enjoy it.
