American Legion School Award recipients

By Ron Montonye - | Jun 11, 2023

As part of the Rugby High School Awards Day Program, Clarence Larson American Legion Post #23 presented the American Legion School Award Medal Program recipients to four seniors on May 18.

The Award Medal represents the educational symbolism of the School Award Medal Program and associates it with The American Legion and its purposes. This award program places emphasis on the development of the six qualities of Courage, Honor, Leadership, Patriotism, Scholarship and Service. This is the highest honor awarded American Youth by the American Legion.

The Medal was presented to four seniors who best exemplified these six qualities and were selected by the high school staff. The recipients included the Award winner as well as a runner-up in both the boy and girl categories. Each recipient received a certificate, and medal for the winners or a lapel pin for the runner-up’s. The winners also received a $300 scholarship and the runner-up’s a $200 scholarship. The awards were presented by Kent Christenson and Ron Montonye of American Legion Post #23.

This year’s winners, as shown in the photo, were (left to right): Ryan Slaubaugh (winner), Mikaylee Livedalen (winner), Austin Dibble (runner-up) and Ryleigh Keating (runner-up).

Congratulations to all four recipients.
