Heart of America Library News 8-15
Some items new to our shelves include a biography titled “Lab Girl” by Hope Jahren. Acclaimed scientist Hope Jahren has built three laboratories in which she’s studied trees, flowers, seeds, and soil. Her first book is a revelatory treatise on plant life-but it is also so much more. The core of this book is the story of a relationship Jahren forged with a brilliant, wounded man named Bill, who becomes her lab partner and best friend. Their sometimes rogue adventures in science take them from the Midwest across the United States and back again, over the Atlantic to the ever-light skies of the North Pole and to tropical Hawaii.
Books added to the junior non-fiction section include “Ultimate Predatorpedia; the most complete predator reference ever” by Christina Wilsdon; “Sports Illustrated Kids: The greatest football teams of all time”; “North America” by Heather Williams; “Fossil by Fossil: comparing dinosaur bones” by Sara Levine; “How do Toys Work” by Joanna Brundle; and “Women Athletes Who Rule!” by Elizabeth McGarr McCue.
Three new adult titles by Laila Ibrahim include “Golden Poppies,” “Mustard Seed” and “Yellow Crocus”.
New magazines this week are People, Guideposts, North Dakota Living, American Patchwork & Quilting, Consumer Reports, Eating Well, Family Handyman and Readers Digest LP.
