4-H Achievement Days postponed

By Staff | May 21, 2020

4-H’ers work on their projects throughout the year. A lot of time and effort goes into project work and much knowledge is gained by youth through their project work. 4-H Achievement Days provides 4-H members an opportunity to showcase the knowledge and skills they’ve learned through their project work.

In light of?the evolving COVID-19 pandemic, the Pierce County 4-H Leaders Council has made the difficult decision to postpone Achievement Days until August 5-7. This decision came after careful consideration and with the health of youth members, leaders, families and communities a top priority.

At this time it is anticipated that social distancing modifications will likely still need to be implemented for each of the Achievement Days events during the new dates, however the 4-H Leaders Council and Pierce County Extension office hope that postponing will allow for a more traditional Achievement Days experience for our 4-H members.?

The annual 4-H Cow Pie and Chicken Bingo fundraiser will continue as scheduled for June 26 and 27 but due to COVID social distancing restrictions, the games will be livestreamed via Facebook Live. Tickets will be available for purchase from any Pierce County 4-H member or 4-H family in early June.

The Pierce County Extension office recognizes the hard work 4-H’ers and their club leaders have dedicated to the program and is aware of the disruption the COVID-19 pandemic causes to Achievement Days and show season.?We ask each 4-H’er to recall their 4-H Pledge and remember that 4-H doesn’t just happen in a show ring.??

The next few months will continue to provide ample opportunity for our members?to?”Learn? To?Do By Doing” as they master new skills, develop leadership, plan and make decisions.

The ND Center for 4-H has prepared information and guidance for clubs to complete their 4-H year, although in a modified way. This information as well as 4-H program updates related to COVID-19 can be found by visiting www.ndsu.edu/4h/covid_19/ .

The NDSU Extension Pierce County staff is working remotely but remains ready and?available to support 4-H members, leaders, volunteers and community members. Please do not hesitate to call 701-776-6234 ext. 5 or email NDSU.Pierce.Extension@ndsu.edu .
