Spring Fever forums won’t be held at county sites

By Staff | Mar 20, 2020

North Dakota State University is offering a series of forums to help you care for your yard and garden. The forums will be held on Thursday nights from March 26 to April 16, 2020. All forums run from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Central.

In order to practice social distancing in light of the COVID-19 situation, there will be NO FORUMS conducted at COUNTY SITES for the first two sessions, March 26 and April 2. We will have an announcement on the remaining two sessions at a later date.

All forums will be accessible from your home on the internet. You will be able to click on the link at the Spring Fever Garden Forums website and attend the meeting. You can watch the live presentations and communicate with the speaker by typing your questions into the Chat Box. As the moderator, I will ask the speaker your questions, time permitting.

Handouts for all presentations will be posted on the Spring Fever website before the presentation. You may download and print the handouts.

All presentations will be uploaded onto the Spring Fever website for later viewing.

This year’s topics include: Plant Parenting 101, Alternative Lawn Care, Restoring Soil Health, Container Gardening, Grafted Vegetables for Your Garden, Potager (powtuhjei) Gardens Simplified, Apple Growing Notes, Growing Hops in ND, Easy Ways to Improve Your Landscape, Tree Pest Problems, Lawn Irrigation, Get a Room – Conserving Solitary Bees.

Please go to www.ag.ndsu.edu/springfever/ to register to attend the Spring Fever Garden Forums from home.

We are sorry you will not be able to attend the first two sessions at your County Extension Office. Please contact your local County Extension office if you have any questions.

Pierce County 4-H Youth Compete in 4-H Air Rifle Match

Four youth in the Pierce County 4-H Air Rifle discipline competed at the Cass County 4-H Air Rifle Match on March 8.

The air rifle program uses sporter class air rifles and match pellets. Participants shoot at paper National Rifle Association or Civilian Marksmanship Program AR 5/10 targets from a distance of 10 meters. Most competitions involve 60-shot, three-position or 40-shot standing events.

The March 8, West Fargo match was a 60-shot 3-position event.

Results are as follows:

– Junior Division: Carter Teigen placed 3rd with a score of 443

– Beginner Division: Rhett Teigen placed 1st with a score of 557 and Pius Wangler placed 10th with a score of 448.

Pierce County 4-H Air Rifle coaches are Dave Teigen, Kent Christenson, Dale Broe and Andrea Beaver.

The 4-H Shooting Sports program is open to youth of all skill levels ages 8-19. Since these activities are designed to supplement 4-H project work, it is recommended and encouraged that youth also be involved in traditional 4-H programming such as project work and Achievement Days. Regardless of their 4-H participation level, youth will need to be enrolled in the 4hOnline system in order to attend practices and/or competitions.

For more information about 4-H or the Pierce County 4-H Shooting Sports program, contact the NDSU Extension Pierce County office at 776-6234 ext. 5 or NDSU.Pierce.Extension@ndsu.edu.
