SCHMIDT: BBQ Jr. grill master’s bootcamp
Youth (8 to 18 years old) are invited to join the McHenry and Pierce County Extension offices as they host their first BBQ Junior Grill Master’s Bootcamp which will be a FUN, HANDS-ON day of learning about the art and science of safely preparing beef in an outdoor setting! Parents are welcome to attend with their children.
The event will take place on August 8 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Roger Berg Arena located in Towner, ND. The event is free to attend due to sponsorship by the McHenry County Farm Service Agency and Grill Master, Duane Drader.
The purpose of this event is to teach the art and science of safely preparing beef in an outdoor setting, which can provide youth with life skills, food literacy, and lifestyle choices for healthy living and potentially, career development skills.
Youth will learn:
– Teamwork and patience
– Grilling and smoking methods
– How rubs and marinades influence red meat flavor
– Food safety
– Nutrition
The grilling bootcamp also provides learning experiences for all youth whether or not they own an animal or participate in 4-H animal projects. There is also an opportunity to be part of a 4-H junior barbeque team!
Youth do not need to be 4-H members to participate in the BBQ Junior Grill Master’s Bootcamp they just need a willingness to learn.
Please call 701-537-5405 to RSVP for the BBQ Junior Grill Master’s Bootcamp.
