Schmidt: Agriculture Improvement Association annual meeting Feb. 20
The annual meeting of the Pierce County Agricultural Improvement Association (PCAIA) will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Dakota Farms, Rugby.
All interested producers and agriculturalists are invited and encouraged to attend. There is no cost to attend the meeting. There is a $3 fee for those wishing to join or renew their Pierce County Agricultural Improvement Association membership.
Program topics include:
– Integrated Weed Management & Palmer Amaranth
– Business Minded Marketing (Marketing plans, Cost of Production, Effective Use of Bin Space)
– Commodity Representative Elections Oilseed Council, Canola, District 2
– Profitable Farm Management (NDSU Crop Compare, Fertilizer Prices, Land Rents/Values, and Interest Rates)
– PCAIA Annual Business Meeting & County Seed Increase Update

Dicamba Training to be offered in Rugby
Bayer Crop Science will be offering a dicamba (Auxin herbicide specific) applicator training immediately following the PCAIA annual meeting. Any person operating a sprayer must have this training to apply dicamba in soybeans.
North Dakota Oilseed Council Election in Pierce County
Canola Growers in Pierce County are being urged to participate in the election of a county representative for the North Dakota Oilseed Council. All Canola growers who have a definite interest in the membership of the Council are encouraged to participate in the election on February 20, 2019, at 11:30AM, during the Pierce County Ag Improvement Annual Meeting, at Dakota Farms, 308 US-2, in Rugby, ND.
Each person, landlord, tenant, husband and/or wife, who planted Canola in 2018 or intends to plant Canola in 2019 and is a participating producer who resides in this county, if present in person, is entitled.
The election will be conducted under the supervision of Yolanda Schmidt, Pierce County Extension Agent, North Dakota Extension.
County representatives from District 2 will assemble March 20, 2019, 11:30am at the Dakota Farms, located at 308 Highway 2 SE, in Rugby, ND, to elect the district’s member of the North Dakota Oilseed Council.
The Oilseed Council was created by legislative enactment to facilitate the production, development, marketing and promotion of sunflower, safflower, rapeseed or canola, flax and crambe.
