Lorraine Helen (Schneider) Axtman, the daughter of Joseph B. and Frances (Fettig) Schneider was born on June 7, 1942 in Rugby, North Dakota. She died unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the age of 74 years in her Rugby home.

Lorraine was reared in the Orrin, North Dakota home of her parents and attended grade school there graduating from Rugby High School, the class of 1958. On September 20, 1960, she was united in marriage to John J. Axtman at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Orrin. The couple made their home in rural Balta following their marriage, where they farmed and started their family. In 1978, the family moved to Rugby. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Lorraine also worked outside the home doing daycare and for 16 years she clerked in the Axtman Pharmacy in the Pamida department store. Lorraine was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, its Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters, Rugby Court. She was an active volunteer at Little Flower, recording mass intentions for many years. Lorraine was an avid reader, an amazing cook, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, ceramics, watching her grandchildren in their many activities and she enjoyed watching all sports especially the Minnesota sports teams.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, John; her children, Dale (Shannon) of Plano, Texas, Laura (Byron) Strand of Roseau, Minnesota, Gary (Annette) of Austin, Texas, Lisa (Mike) Johnston of Hastings, Minnesota and Corey (Jodi) of McKinny, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Elizabeth (Doug) Johnson, Wilton; Gloria (Marvin) Kraft, Tyler Texas; Tamera Miller, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 2 brothers, Gerald (Barb) Schneider, Brandon, South Dakota and Tim Schneider, West

Fargo; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a multitude of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 18th at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with burial in the church cemetery. Father Tom Graner, Celebrant.

Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday with a Rosary and Vigil prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby. Visitation continued from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
