Pierce County Crop Improvement annual meeting

The annual meeting of the Pierce County Agricultural Improvement Association will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2013,beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Rugby Eagles Club.

On the program will be:

Lesley Lubenow, Area NDSU Extension Agronomy Specialist with the Langdon Research Extension Center will speak about new wheat varieties and research/results.

Greg Endres, Area NDSU Extension Cropping Systems Specialist with the Carrington Research Extension Center will speak about weed resistance, pre-emergence strategies, and palmer amaranth.

Ken Hellevang, NDSU Agricultural Engineer-Post Harvest/Structures will speak about grain drying and spring grain drying challenges.

Elections to select a Pierce County Corn Utilization Council Representative to represent Pierce County on the North Dakota Corn Utilization Council (NDCUC) will also be held at this meeting.

Corn growers in Pierce County are being urged to participate in the election of a county representative for the North Dakota Corn Utilization Council. All corn growers who have a definite interest in the membership of the Council are encouraged to participate in the election at 10 a.m. on February 18, 2014 at the Rugby Eagles in Rugby, ND. The election is being held in conjunction with the Pierce County Ag Improvement Association Annual Meeting.

Each person, landlord or tenant, husband and/or wife, who has planted corn in 2013, or intends to plant corn in 2014, and is a participating producer who resides in Pierce County, if present in person, is entitled to vote. The elections will be conducted under the supervision of the County Extension Agent, NDSU Extension Service. The county representatives for District III will assemble at the district level to elect the district’s member of the North Dakota Corn Council.

The Corn Council was created by legislative enactment to facilitate the production, development, marketing and promotion of consumption and usage of corn products.

Counties in District III include: Benson, Cavalier, Grand Forks, Nelson, Pembina, Ramsey, Rolette, Towner, Walsh, Bottineau, Burke, Divide, McHenry, Mountrail, Pierce, Renville, Ward, and Williams.

Private Applicator

Pesticide Certification Dates Scheduled

If you purchase or apply restricted use pesticides you will need to be certified. The certification fee is $25. Checks are payable to the Pierce County Extension Office. Currently certifications are good for 3 years and expire on April 1st. Testing for new applicants or those who have let their certification lapse will not be available the day of the training you attend. New applicants can test on March 13th or make an appointment to test on an alternative day.

Pierce County private applicator certification meetings will be held in Rugby to recertify or certify on the following dates:

Thursday, February 27, 2013 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Dakota Farms registration 12-1pm

  • Wednesday, March 12, 2013 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Rugby Eagles registration 12-1 p.m.

Soup and sandwiches will be served at both meeting locations beginning at 12:30 p.m. to registered participants.

  • Thursday, March 13, 2013 Testing Only 9:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. at the Courthouse Community Meeting Room.

For those re-certifying, if you cannot attend one of these meetings, you have the option of attending a meeting in another county or you may elect to take a monitored 60 question open book test.
