Craig Gunderson
Craig Einar Gunderson was born on May 10,1956, to Henry and Janice (Westgard) Gunderson in Rugby, North Dakota. Craig was the 3rd son of seven boys. He died on May 7, 2026, at the age of 69, at the Heart of American Hospital in Rugby. During his last few weeks of life, he was cared for by staff of the Heart of America Hospice Program.
Craig graduated from Rugby High School. He married Donna Arlien on August 22,1987, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rugby. They were blessed with a son, Eric, and the couple remained life-long residents of Rugby.
Craig worked at a number of jobs throughout his life, but most people will remember him as a cook at various restaurants in Rugby.
Craig is survived by his son Eric (Paige) Gunderson of Wahpeton, ND,grandchildren Payton and Lenyx Gunderson, brothers Dwight (Mary) Gunderson, Minot, ND, Hal (Elaine) Gunderson, Minot, ND, Brian (Karla) Gunderson, Eagan, MN, Chad (Becky) Arthur, Louisville, KY, Kris Arthur, Minot,ND, and Kurt Arthur, Rugby, ND.
He was preceded in death by his father Henry Gunderson, mother Janice Gunderson-Arthur, step-father Milton Arthur, grandparents Einar & Alice Westgard, and Bennie & Cora Gunderson, as well as other relatives.
The family extends their sincere gratitude for the thoughtful and great care that Craig received from the Heart of America Hospice Care Team.
Per the family’s wishes, a private graveside ceremony will take place.
Memorials in Craig’s memory can be directed to the Rugby Heart of America Hospice Program, or to the cemetery or organization of your choice.
