Iris Simonson

Iris I. Simonson, 85, of Minot, ND, and formerly of Fillmore, ND passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Northern Lights Long Term Care in Minot. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at the St. Williams Catholic Church in Maddock, ND with Fr. Steven Wirth celebrating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Zion Cemetery in Maddock. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Zion Cemetery Fund: 3556 52nd Ave NE Maddock, ND 58348.

Iris Irene Simonson was born December 9, 1940 to Pete and Mary (Voeller) Goetz in Fillmore, ND, where she grew up. After school, she worked at various jobs. Iris was united in marriage to Derold Simonson on April 27, 1969 in Knox, ND. The couple lived on the farm where they milked cows, raised beef cattle, and small grains.

Iris’s favorite thing to do was having coffee with neighbors. She loved cards, baking, and truly enjoyed spending time with Matthew and Alexis, her grandchildren.

Iris is survived by her son, Chad (Nicole) Simonson of Minot; grandchildren, Matthew Simonson and Alexis Simonson; sister, Lorraine Thompson of Rugby.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Derald; daughter, JoAnn Simonson; parents, Mary and Pete Goetz; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
