Jun 7, 2025

Dec. 27, 1972-May 15, 2025

Arlington, TX

Michael “Mike” Allen Ackerson, 52, of Arlington, TX, formerly of Williston, ND, passed away on May 15, 2025.

Born in Jamestown, ND, on Dec. 27, 1972, Mike spent his formative years in Rugby, ND, and Williston.

He graduated from WHS in 1991. Mike attended Williston State College where he met his wife, Teresa Salveson. The two were married in Williston on Aug. 5, 1995.

Mike quickly discovered his calling was in the first responder field where he attained the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification and the North Dakota Paramedic license.

He served as an EMT in Williston and Minot. During this time, they welcomed three sons to the world.

The family became Texans in 2002, settling in Arlington where he initially worked for an ambulance company. Mike found his way to the Methodist Health System proudly serving with them for the last 16 years, most recently in the ER at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center.

Affectionately known as “Mr. Fix It,” he brought calmness, confidence, and capability to resolve work challenges.

Outside of work, Mike’s interests were quite varied. He enjoyed Six Flags Over Texas and cheering passionately for his favorite hockey team, the Dallas Stars, with his family.

Recently, he explored the world through Pokémon Go with friends. Mike found wonder in the stars through his love of astronomy and never missed a chance to enjoy the magic of fireworks lighting up the night sky.

He also had a deep love for his dog, Max, and cat, Spoink. Infatuated with fish and aquariums, Mike found joy and peace in the world beneath the water.

He approached life with good humor and optimism, often reminding those around him to “Just smile and wave.”— a phrase from an animated children’s movie that perfectly captured his light-hearted, resilient spirit, and dry wit.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Teresa, on Aug. 14, 2021.

Mike is survived by sons Justus (MT), Joren (TX), and Jarrett (TX); mother, Marilyn Gutschmidt (MT), sister Melissa (Alan) Coalter (KY), brother Jeff Ackerson (TX), two grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

His legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.

A memorial service and tree planting will be held soon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Dallas Stars Foundation, which supports community outreach, youth development, and educational initiatives throughout the Dallas, Fort Worth area.
