John Bohl
April 12, 1935-May 31, 2025
Balta
John Joseph Bohl, 90 of Balta died peacefully Saturday, May 31, 2025 at St. Aloisius Long Term Care in Harvey, North Dakota with his wife of 64 years by his side. He was born on April 12, 1935 in the family home in rural Balta, North Dakota to Andrew and Anna (Garman) Bohl.
John attended rural school through the 8th grade, then he went to help on the farm. At his parents’ 25th Anniversary dance, John met the love of his life, Alice Eisenzimmer. They were united in marriage on April 10, 1961.
John and Alice worked side by side farming and milking dairy cows. In his “spare time”, he would fix anything and everything. He often helped neighbors with building projects or mechanical problems. He was a true “Mr. Fix-it”.
He worked until his son, Curtis died in a farm accident in 2019. He then enjoyed riding his side by side around the countryside checking on the crops and neighbors.
John was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church all of his life. Over the years he served on the church board and Tuscarora Township boards. He was also a Third Degree Knight of Columbus. He loved the life he and Alice made on the farm, was blessed and will be dearly missed.
John is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter, Carla (Brent) Zunich of Thompson; granddaughters, Ciara and Callie Zunich; sisters, Amy (Mike) Meade of Lead, South Dakota and Eleanor Koch of Bismarck; sisters-in-law, Martha Garman, Helen (Jerry Boucher and Loretta Fandrich; brothers-in-law, Larry Huss; many nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughters, Mary and Anna; son, Curtis; his parents; sisters, Magdalena Bohl and Betty (Edward) Axtmann; in-laws, Lucy (Marvin) Hoffman, Monica (Peter) Gross, Tina Eisenzimmer, Leona Huss, Johnny Eisenzimmer and Daniel Garman.
During his time at St. Aloisius LTC, he was cared for by many special people that became like family, we are ever grateful for them.
