Angela Herman

Rugby
Angela Francine (Deplazes) Herman was born in Cando, North Dakota on June 10, 1947, to Francis and Hester (Brown) Deplazes. She died at the age of 77 years on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.
She grew up on a farm near York before her family moved to Towner in 1961. She graduated from Towner High School in 1965 and married Robert Herman shortly after on June 19th. They started their married life on a family farm in Wager Township, McHenry County. There they farmed and raised two children until moving to Rugby in 1983 when they began working for the United States Post Office. She worked for the post office in Leeds for a time before becoming the Postmaster in Balta and eventually becoming the Postmaster in Butte, ND, retiring in the fall of 2012. She enjoyed spending time outside gardening and tending to her many plants and flowers. She was a Master gardener and a homesteader, way before it was a “thing”, always raising a large garden and canning her bounty to share with family and friends.
She was so immensely proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she never passed on an opportunity to tell someone so. Showing up to their events whenever she could; taking in rodeos, baseball, basketball, wrestling, football, volleyball, dance recitals, school programs and hockey games.
Family meant the world to her. She kept up with all the happenings of family members and enjoyed calling them up to check in and chat. She could name all her nieces and nephews, and even their children at the drop of a hat. If you wanted to know what was going on in the family – You could count on her to know.
She was always willing to lend a hand wherever needed and never showed up anywhere empty-handed. She loved to bring gifts, snacks, or baked goods for whoever she was going to see. Family and friends would often request she bring her famous chocolate cake with brown sugar frosting or homemade pickles.
She was an avid quilter and enjoyed her quilt club meetings and getting together with her sisters at quilting retreats. When she was not busy quilting or gardening, she traveled with family or to see family with trips to Montana, Colorado, Kansas, Virginia, California, Missouri, Louisiana, Florida, Alaska, Tennessee, Kentucky, Washington and more. She was a member of the Rugby Eagles, Heart of America Quilters, NoAH Garden Cub and Missouri Valley Quilters.
She is survived by her children, Bradley Herman of New Rockford and Robyn Mygland (Chris Harmel) of Rugby; grandchildren, Emilee Larson (Cody) Kelsy, Quinn and Violet of New Rockford, Haley Mygland (Kyle Borgen), Kacen Mygland, Konner, Kinley and Sophia Borgen, Bennie Mygland, Avery Mygland, Marlee Mygland, Shay Harmel (Kara) Kallie and Sutton; all of Rugby; siblings, Jerry (Jerolyn) Deplazes of Newport, VA, Harriet Bracken of Leeds, Virginia Eisenzimmer of Devils Lake, Margaret (Ervin) Giese of Devils Lake, Douglas Deplazes of Kodiak, AK, Mary (Bob) Everson of Leonard, Barbara (Pat) Headrick of Bismarck, Michel Tuntland of Mandan, Timothy Deplazes of Kodiak, AK, Cecelia Brown of Sawyer, Bernadette Deplazes (Andy Finke) of Kodiak AK and Patricia Deplazes of Julesburg, CO; sisters-in-law, Donna Deplazes of Anthony, KS, Mardel Kuntz of Minot and Dorothy Herman of Great Falls MT; many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
