Maxine Dissette
May 23, 1928-Feb. 17, 2025
Rolette
Maxine Henrietta Dissette, the daughter of Henry and Bertha (Florentine) Anklam was born on May 23, 1928 in rural Rolette, North Dakota. She died peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2025 at the Rolette Community Care Center in Rolette, North Dakota.
Maxine was raised in rural Rolette and attended her early school years at a country school. She attended high school at Rolette High School, where she played sports, enjoyed school activities and graduated.
Maxine grew up in a musical household, with her parents hosting house dances and card parties, so she found her musical talent at a young age. Throughout her life, she brought that musical gift with her, whether it be playing the piano, guitar or accordion.
After high school, she continued her education at Minot State Teachers College where she obtained her teaching certificate. She taught at a one room school and lived at the Dissette family home while teaching. Her rent was helping with household chores. While living there, she met Eugene Dissette.
On January 6, 1950, Maxine was united in marriage to Eugene Dissette at First Lutheran Church in Rugby. Throughout her teaching career, she taught at Island Lake, Finnigan and Wolford.
Maxine and Eugene began their farming life together, working side by side and Maxine was a true pioneer woman. The couple was blessed with six children. She loved being a farmwife, doing whatever was needed, driving trucks, tending to the garden and the household, preparing meals and most of all, raising her children.
The coffee pot was always on and ready for neighbors to stop by to visit along with a sweet treat she had baked. She enjoyed baking, reading, knitting, quilting and crocheting.
She was a member of the Ox Creek Lutheran Church, until its closing, lady’s aide and was the bookkeeper for the Ox Creek Cemetery. Maxine was witty and light-hearted with a great sense of humor.
In their later years, she and Eugene enjoyed watching Jeopardy and the World Series, often betting on the right answer or score. Whether they were working or not, they were always side by side, hardly seen alone. They lived a blessed life together and after Eugene’s passing in 2001, Maxine was blessed to have her children by her side, whom she was so proud of.
Maxine is survived by her two daughters, Brenda (Paul) Locke of Sun City, Arizona and Bonnie Dissette (Denny) of El Paso, Illinois; four sons, Brent (Lea Ann) of Killarney, Manitoba, Barry of Horace, Allen of Mohall and David of Rolette; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; her sister, Helen “Babe” Armstrong and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 16th at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Rolette with lunch and fellowship to follow. Burial will be that afternoon at the Persilla Watts Cemetery in Rugby.
