Rugby

Myrl “Ole” Ian Bryn was born to Melvin and Florence (Romfo) Bryn in Rugby, ND in March 1939. Ole died on February 14, 2025 in Rugby. He grew up north of Berwick and attended Dewey Township Country School and graduated from Rugby High School in 1957. He attended Hanson Auto School in Fargo, ND for a short time. He then returned home to farm with his father.

Ole married Amy Thomas on August 11, 1961 at Zion Lutheran Church in Towner. They then moved to their current home. The home of Ole’s grandfather, Ole A. Bryn homesteaded in 1886. Ole and Amy enjoyed many anniversary parties hosted by their children.

Ole raised Hereford cattle and small grains as his parents did and eventually changed over to angus cattle. As his sons, Mike, Rodney, and Aaron grew up, they all helped their dad on the farm and raised cattle of their own. In the wintertime, Ole enjoyed doing leather work and taught his boys as well.

In 2000, Ole and Amy received the North Dakota Soil Conservation Award for Pierce County. In later years, Ole became an amazing woodworker. He enjoyed spending time in his woodshop making many different items. His skills were impressive and he made many wood projects throughout the house and for all of his sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and friends.

Ole and Amy enjoyed traveling. He liked to go to the mountains, traveled to all of the ND state historical sites, and many western states. Ole was very proud of his kids and grandkids. It was a joy when they came around and he loved them dearly.

Ole retired in 2010 and Aaron took over the farm operations. Ole continued to enjoy helping Aaron with the farming.

Ole was baptized, confirmed, and a council member of Berwick Lutheran Church until its closure in 2001. He and Amy then joined the Zion Lutheran Church in Towner.

Ole is survived by his wife of 63 years, Amy. His 3 sons: Mike (Nancy) Bryn, Towner and their children: McKenzie (Victor) Gronvold, Fargo, and Zachary (Brooke) Bryn, Towner; Rodney (Maggie) Bryn, Crookston, MN and their children Carter Bryn, Fertile, MN, Kristen Bryn, Fargo, and Megan Bryn, Fargo; and Aaron (Koreen) Bryn, Berwick and their children Emily, Josie, Leah, and Reid Bryn.
