William Fritel, 82 of Rugby passed away at home on Monday, January 6, 2025 in Rugby, North Dakota. He was born on October 31, 1942 in Rugby, North Dakota to Rudolph and Catherine (Brossart) Fritel.

Will was raised in the rural Barton home of his parents and graduated from Rugby High School in 1962. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962, working on special operations and was honorably discharged in 1964. On March 30, 1964, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lorraine Ann Schumacker in Rugby, North Dakota. They were blessed with four children, Randy, Renee, Mark and Dean. They raised their family on the farm near Rolette. Will started farming in southern Rolette County in 1964. In 1973, they moved to Rolette where he ranched and farmed until the fall of 2018. In July of 2022 Lorraine and Will moved to Rugby. Will was an excellent woodworker, creating many projects, toys and keepsakes for family and friends. He could be found ‘tinkering’ in the garage when the farm work was complete. He lived a blessed life with his career, wife and family that will miss him dearly.

Will is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Rugby; children, Randy (Lynette) Fritel of Rolette, Renee of Apache Junction, Arizona, Mark (Colleen) Fritel of Ardoch and Dean (Ali) Fritel of Eagle, Idaho; grandchildren, Travis (Kristina) Fritel of Westhope, Ashley (Brandon) Moore of Sidney, Montana, Gretchen Fritel of Bismarck, Jodee Fritel of Fargo, Coston, Chaz and Contessa Fritel of Eagle, Idaho; great grandchildren, Kaden, Briggs and Rhett Fritel of Westhope; siblings, Joseph (Naomi) Fritel of Rugby, Frank Fritel of Devils Lake, Beatrice Bachmeier of Casselton, Elsie (Harvey) Leonard of Rolette, Marjorie Heilman of Rugby, Fredrick (Jacqueline) Fritel of Valley City, Raymond (Judith) Fritel of Waco, Texas and Katherine (Douglas) Hagel of Billings, Montana; sisters-in-law, Patricia Fritel and Debbie Fritel; Lorraine’s siblings; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward and Ernest Fritel; in-laws, Janice Fritel, Vincent Bachmeier and Richard Heilman.

Mass of Christian burial was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11th at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with full military honors. Burial will be held in the spring at the church cemetery.
